In addition to the fact that the hexagonal mesh keeps the tree's bales together so that they don't fall apart, it has another importance. It also serves as a protection against gnawers and mice, which often seek out young plant roots and feed on them. The mesh is 32 mm thick and is sold in 1 m height. You do not remove the mesh from the root ball, but plant the tree with it. The mesh is made of bare Fe wire without a coating and will disintegrate in the ground. However, the roots of the tree are able to grow through the netting and so it does not restrict the tree in any way.
